Title: The Gospel according to “A Christmas Story”
Text: 2nd Peter 1:3-8
D.T. Ralphie Parker would have likely gotten his Red Ryder BB gun much sooner if he would have just asked his father. People would find the security they are looking for a lot sooner if they just asked God, our heavenly father.
Introduction
“A Christmas Story plot
Ralphie Parker requested a Red Ryder BB gun as a Christmas gift from multiple people
His mom “Who replied you’ll shoot your eye out” leading to disappointment
Miss Shields “Who replied you’ll shoot your eye out” leading to disappointment
Santa Clause “Who replied you’ll shoot your eye out” leading to disappointment
Ralphie Parker however would eventually get his Christmas wish. He would receive his Red Ryder BB gun. It came from the one person who Raphie never thought to ask, his father.
Move 1
If there is a common denominator that people wish they had its provision. People want to have assurance and security.
Sometimes people seek this assurance and security from other people. However doing so will lead to disappointment
Sometimes people seek assurance and security from self help trends. However doing so will lead to disappointment
Sometimes people seek assurance and security from adopting a certain identity. However doing so will lead to disappointment
The only place where we can find security and assurance is from our heavenly father. Who also happens to be the person most people never ask.

READ 2nd Peter 1:3-9
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.
This scripture begs us to seek security and assurance from the best place to find it
All we need for life and godliness is found in Jesus
He’s given us great and precious promises
The right to be part of the divine nature
Conclusion In a Christmas Story Ralphie Parker would have likely gotten what he wanted a lot sooner if he would have just asked his father. People would find the security they are looking a lot sooner if they just asked God, our heavenly father.
